What Is Church
The Good News Church

The church of Jesus Christ is not any single denomination or program or culture. The claim that a particular church is the only church or that it has the only legitimate history or liturgy is false. What gives validity to any church is the presence of Jesus Christ and the truth as revealed in the Bible. In the New Testament the clear emphasis on what is absolutely necessary to a church being a true church is what it teaches about Jesus Himself and what it teaches about the Gospel or the Good News.

It is also essential for a biblical church to be characterized by the following:

  1. A church that makes the teaching and preaching of the Bible a basic reality.

  2. A church that loves God and exalts the Lord Jesus Christ.

  3. A church that believes in the power of the Holy Spirit.

  4. A church that seeks to worship God in accordance with the teaching of Scripture and the power of the Holy Spirit.

  5. A church where the members of the church understand the need to love, pray for, and support each other.

  6. A church willing to obey the teachings of the Bible rather than follow the changing standards of man.

  7. A church that recognizes the importance of the biblical family.

  8. A church that is willing to reach the lost with the message of the Gospel.

  9. A church that understands what its purpose is under God in the world. It is not enough to simply be a presence.  It must "make disciples."

"For (we) are not ashamed of the gospel!"
